Private questions still need moderated?

We had a question come in. It appears to be a “private” question but when viewing the question it still needed to be “moderated”. When trying to approve the comment using the front-end gear icon, it ran into an error. I had to use the backend editor to change the status to “moderate”. Then it showed correctly on the front end. However, it seems to have made it “public” status. I switched it back to “private” and then answered the question.
Is there a way to tell if new questions that come in “moderate” status are public/private?
