GoDaddy now has PhP 5.6 on Managed WordPress – Anspress 4.0 needs…??

What version of PhP will 4.0 need?  I might as well wait until 4.0 is available.

I currently have Anspress version 2.4.8.  Is it safe to go straight to 4.0?

Thank you.

WordPress is suggesting / moving to PHP 7 and SSL. Totally. They don’t even suggest any hosting company that doesn’t offer by default PHP 7. So PHP 5.6 is …..

https://wordpress.org/news/2016/12/moving-toward-ssl/

“Separately, I also think the performance improvements in PHP7 are particularly impressive, and major kudos to everyone who worked on that. We will consider whether hosts use PHP7 by default for new accounts next year as well.”

Hello George,

I agree with our contributor Cagliostro, if you have waited this long than wait for few more days for AnsPress 4.0. Also there is not any PHP version 6 (I think GoDaddy mean 5.6?).

WordPress started suggesting PHP 7 and I will recommend it as well. As AnsPress 4.0 will work with above PHP 5.5 and PHP 7.

Ok, the previous goDaddy tech support made a mistake php 5.6 isn’t out until Dec. 15th.  The tech support guy who correct the previous support person said WP on their blog says 5.3 is the minimum php version and 6.0 is goDaddy’s target but nobody in their right mind would jump to 7.0.

Looking ahead, when goDaddy upgrades to 5.6, will I be safe to upgrade Anspress from 2.4.8 to 3.7 and/or to 4.0?

Thank you.

George

There is no PHP 6 !! Who told you that ? ROLF … (goes to godaddy and not you).

And WordPress minimum are set by WordPress and not by godaddy.

Also keep in mind that vs 4 could take a long time to stabilize, while 3.0.7 is stable enough (with some fixes you can get from github).

In any case Anspress works fine with PHP 5.5, as posted here (or is it 5.6 ?):

https://anspress.io/docs/

As for the upgrade, if you can wait a few weeks more, it would say go for 4 to avoid 2 updates (backups etc etc).

Personally i use 3.0.7 and works well (a few things do not but … ok, all versions have some problems, i learned to ignore them).

Remember to BACKUP everything first in case something goes wrong.

Also did you have a reason you stayed at 2.4.8 ? If so, then watch out for problems that maybe exist and conflicts. Totally different 3 & 4, i mean many – many changes.

Thank you Cagliostro.  I’ll bring up the php 7 issue with Godaddy and get their roadmap.  On the phone with them now.

So, where does that leave me re upgrading Anspress to 3.7 or 4.0 from current 2.4.8?  Or do I need an intermediate upgrade step?  I think php 5.5 is the minimum for Anspress 3.0 or higher.
